249.00

Grow and gather your own beautiful blooms!

Fill your home and garden (and your friend’s home’s) with safe-to-sniff, bee friendly loveliness.

Sunday 8th September, 10:30am start

Ballakaye, Nowhere Creek VIC 3469

We will start the day over cake and coffee whilst covering all the fundamentals of growing your own cut flowers including;

  • Allocating Space

  • Sunlight

  • Soil

  • Irrigation

  • Drainage

  • Pests

  • Annuals v Perennials

  • What are the specific requirements of your seed?

Getting good soil;

  • Learn how to perform a basic soil test

  • Discuss different soil types

  • Making soil amendments

  • Compost

After our theory component we will settle around a classic Settler & Sons long table for a grazing style lunch in the garden including cheese, sourdough, charcuterie, fresh fruit and a glass or two of local Pyrenees bubbles, of course!

Then it’s time to get hands on!

After talking through raising seedlings v direct sowing you’ll be putting the theory into practice;

  • Sow your own summer cut flower seeds including zinnias and cosmos in seed trays

  • Practice direct seeding into a prepared garden bed

  • Pot up your own Dahlia tuber

Numbers are limited to a small group to allow participants to get the most out of the day.

Inclusions:

  • A punnet of summer seedlings from The Cottage Flower Farm

  • Your tray of 72 sown seeds to raise at home

  • Your potted up Dahlia tuber

  • Detailed notes including seed starting, growing, pinching, transplanting, spacing, plant support and harvesting

  • Coffee and home made cake to start the day

  • A classic Settler & Sons grazing style long table lunch and local Pyrenees sparkling wine

  • The knowledge to start growing and gathering your own beautiful blooms!

What to bring:

  • SunSmart clothing- a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen

  • Gardening gloves

  • Sensible, flat soled, closed in shoes (sorry to be boring!)

  • A jacket, as we never know what our spring weather will bring

Who is it for?

Anyone who dreams of having a garden (big or small!) full of flowers for cutting, filliing their homes with safe-to-sniff blooms or gifting friends bouquets that you have grown yourself.

There is no experience required and there will be lots of time allowed for all your questions.

There will be a small range of additional dahlia tubers, seeds and seedlings available for purchase the day.

You will be sent an email with last minute details, directions to Ballakaye, etc in the week of the workshop.
